Wall Street Journal Describes Success with TARP Bailout

"The government's efforts appear to have helped stabilize the financial sector," an article in the Wall Street Journal said today.

In addition, the article states "The Obama administration, buoyed by a resurgent Wall Street, plans to cut the projected long-term cost of the Troubled Asset Relief Program by more than $200 billion, in a move that could smooth the way for the introduction of a new jobs program."  

Republican Congressman John Boehner called it "the worst idea" he had ever heard, according to the Wall Street Journal.

 His party is opposed to recycling TARP funds for a jobs bill, calling instead for the money to go toward reducing the deficit, the Wall Street Journal wrote. Boehner (R., 8th Congressional District, Ohio) is the leader of the Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The success of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (or TARP) means that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will most likely have no problem gaining Congressional approval for another term.

 “The largest portion of the proceeds from the drawing will be used towards the Boonies Web site construction, which is underway,” Clark explained. Our target launch date is January 1, 2010.  In addition, 7.5% of the proceeds will be donated to The Allegheny Center for the Arts, and 7.5% to an account for a Boonies Education Scholarship Fund.”

The 50/50 drawing will take place at the GRO-Warren office/gallery on December 18^th at noon. The public is invited to attend, though you need not be present to win.

In other news about the 5-day International Film Festival to be held in Warren, August 23-27, 2011, Joey Roy, Festival Manager said, “The Boonies Group is in the process of becoming a 501c3, (a non-profit organization) and is working with GRO-Warren, the Regional Arts Council and WCCBI.”

 

Roy added, “We had a great turnout for our first volunteer meeting on November 15th. In the new year, we will hold more public meetings for others in the community who want to learn about the International Film Festival and/or get involved. A separate meeting will be held with regional businesses to discuss the Festival as it may apply to them. Details will be published in the near future.”

Christmas 2009 Full of Surprises

From stage to storefront Christmas 2009 in Warren, Pennsylvania will offer holiday fans a special treat this year, starting with the lighting of the City Christmas Tree Friday at 6 p.m, complete with horse-drawn trolley rides.

Area musicians will fill the air with tunes of glad tidings as part of the Christmas Walk just before the tree lighting at the municipal building while the Struthers Theatre presents its "Best Christmas Pageant Ever" through Sunday. A special Christmas House has been constructed just for Santa on Liberty Street. And local residents are stringing up lights throughout the city to spread cheer during the darkest days of the Winter Solstice. Don't miss the string quartet at Authors Books & Music on Liberty Street.

And for those who missed the Christmas Parade floats from the 1939 Warren celebration, a special recreation of the event will be unveiled this year.
