Jamestown and Warren Democrats kick off Fall Presidential Campaign

Warren Democrats last week held an organizational meeting for the local Presidential campaign with Democratic Co-Chairperson Karen Davis and County Commissioner President John Eggleston in attendance. The group agreed to continue a voter registration drive and will have an information booth at the Warren County Fair to be held August 5-9 in Pittsfield.

Members noted that it can be quite difficult to obtain Obama signs, bumper stickers, and buttons and those who participated in the April Presidential Primary were urged to bring any extra campaign materials to Karen Davis for distribution at the County Fair and at a proposed headquarters when the location is announced. Members were asked to let their friends and acquaintances know that they can register to vote all the way up to approximately October 3rd (or 30 days before election day, which is Tuesday, November 4, 2008). Registration forms are easy to fill out and can be obtained from a campaign committee member or at the election office or county commissioners office in the Warren County Courthouse.

Prospective Warren County voters can call the Elections office at 204 Fourth Avenue in Warren at 728-3406 for more information.

In Jamestown, the Democratic Committee is going ahead with plans to open a Presidential Campaign Headquarters by holding an HQ Fundraiser on Saturday, August 23 at St. John's Church Hall, located at 270 Newton Avenue. The event starts at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. dinner that costs $30 to benefit the headquarters. Obama lawn signs will be handed out at the dinner. Warren residents are welcome to attend and may register at this link. This is an officially approved Obama for President event.

New Homes, Businesses in the city of Warren

Framinghabitat
A two-woman, five-man crew Saturday finishes the framing on a new house built by Habitat for Humanity on Walnut Street on Warren's West Side.

You can either move to a new location or change the way your old home looks. Either way it will be a new home. People, businesses, and organizations appear to be moving back into Warren, if only in a methodical manner. Non-profit organizations are helping to make this happen, following the construction boom of Impact Warren, which saw the creation of a waterfront district on the Allegheny River a few years ago.

The Times Observer reports that County Commissioners are interested in moving the Pennsylvania Hunting and Fishing Museum to Glade Township, next door to the Warren County Conservation District building at the corner of Hatch Run Road and Conewango Avenue Extension.

The possible move represents the second proposed nature museum currently planned for the Warren area, by two different groups.

Home Recipe for keeping bugs away from your plants

by Denise Grant, copyright 2008

By keeping my plants healthy, watered and weed free I can usually control pests. But once in a while I have a pest problem or my neighbors ask for a pest control that is more organic than the store bought chemical products.

The recipe below is close to being organic and works well. I originally saw this in Organic Gardening and tried it. It works well.
