Free kayak lessons and rides, guides to hiking and mountain biking were just a few of the offerings at the 2008 Allegheny Outdoor Club's first annual Get Outdoors Day at Chapman State Park near Clarendon last weekend. Participants came from as far away as Pittsburgh and South Central New York to join in the fun for the all-day event on Saturday.
The Allegheny Outdoor Club is an organization of individuals of all ages based in northwestern Pennsylvania who enjoy nature and year round outdoor activities. They try to maintain a weekly schedule of hosted hiking, biking, and winter skiing activities, as well as numerous special events, for anyone who wishes to participate.
Dues are $3 per individual or $5 per family per year and are used mainly to cover the cost of mailing quarterly schedules. Schedules are also distributed via e-mail for members who are online. Non-members are always welcome to participate in activities without obligation to join the club.
