Calling the fall Presidential Election the most historic in our lifetime, local Democrats have invited Republicans and Independents to join them in a non-partisan voter registration drive to be held prior to the October 6 deadline for the November 4 voting day. Volunteers are not allowed to wear buttons or display campaign literature or otherwise influence a voter's party of choice.
Tables will be set up at Bi-Lo's Supermarket and at the Warren Mall and volunteers are still needed.
Interested persons may call any of four numbers to participate: (814) 406-4345, (814) 406-4373, (814) 406-4650, or (814) 406-4651. Telephones have been provided free-of-charge by the local cable company, Atlantic Broadband, to promote their new internet phone service to local businesses. Voter registration forms are also available at the Warren County Court House during regular business hours and at the Warren County for Obama Headquarters, which is trying to stay open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
A door-to-door canvassing of voters will start this Saturday. Persons interested in visiting with their neighbors are asked to call any of the four numbers listed above to sign up. Yesterday, 500 Obama-Biden yard signs were delivered from Erie where they were printed by DeSantis Sign Company. A small donation is requested when supporters pick up their signs. Instead of relying on "robo-calls" the Warren County for Obama Campaign hopes to engage local voters in a more personal approach with neighbors visiting and calling neighbors.
